Editor Locale Manager (Zotero Plugin)

Editor Locale Manager is a powerful plugin for Zotero 7, 8, and 9 that allows you to easily manage, edit, and merge Publisher and Place fields across your entire library in bulk. If your library has accumulated inconsistent publisher names over the years (e.g., “ACM”, “ACM Press”, “Assoc. for Computing Machinery”) or missing location data, this plugin provides a clean, unified interface to clean them up in seconds.

    Installation

    1. Download the latest compiled release: zotero-editor-locale.xpi.
    2. Open Zotero.
    3. Go to Tools → Add-ons.
    4. Click the gear icon (⚙️) in the top right corner and select Install Add-on From File….
    5. Select the downloaded .xpi file and click “Install”. Note: Depending on your Zotero version, the plugin works instantly or may require a quick Zotero restart upon first installation.

      Usage

    6. In Zotero, go to the top menu bar and click Edit → Editors… (or your localized equivalent).
    7. A dialog window will appear loading all publishers from your library.
    8. To Edit Individually: Simply click the text boxes in the Publisher or Place/Location columns and type your changes.
    9. To Merge:
    • Check the boxes on the left for the publishers you wish to merge (e.g., “MIT” and “MIT Press”).
    • Click the Merge Selected button at the top right.
    • Enter the desired final name and choose a unified place from the suggestion dropdown (▼).
    • Click Apply Merge.
      1. Once you are done making all your changes, click Save Changes at the bottom right. The plugin will update all affected items in your library safely.
